What is socialisation?
A
The process of internalising norms and ideologies of a culture/society.

What is primary socialisation?
A
Takes place in the first few years of life. We learn how to interact from those around us (family)
We acquire human skills and emotions and appropriate responses to certain situations.

What is secondary socialisation?
A
Takes place outside of the home. We learn from school, peers, media and religion.
We learn universalistic values of a wider society

What impact does socialisation have on the formation of identity?
A
Family socialisation provides us with an identity Social roles (eg gender) played by parents provides children with a blueprint to their identity
