A
- you cannot afford the basic needs of life- food, clothing and shelter

A
- a condition characterised by severe deprivation of human needs eg food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information
- it does not only depend on income bu access to services

A
- the availability of health care services is inversely proportionate to the need for it
- those pts who have the greatest health need appear to receive the poorest quality health care
