Imperialism
The takeover of a country or territory by a stranger nation with the intent of dominating the pollitical, social, and economic life of the people of that territory
Nationalism
Competing with other nations to prove your national greatness
White Man’s Burden
The white men thought it was their duty to make other races civilized
Genocide
The mass murder of a particular group of people
Apartheid
Racial segregation
Ethnocentrism
Viewing ones own culture as superior to others, and applying your own cultures values to judge people in other cultures
Rite of Passage
A special ceremony or ritual that marks a particular stage of life, such as reaching addulthood
Developed Nation
High standards of living, and economies based on a combination of industry, service, and agriculture
Developing Nation
Low standards of living, little industry, and an economy that mostly relies on farming
