How many regions are there in the U.S.? What are they?
There are 5: the Northeast, the Southeast, the Midwest, the Southwest, and the West
What is a region?
A region is an area that has places with similar geographic features
What is a landform?
A natural feature of the earth’s surface
What is a mesa
A flat topped landform with slopes on all sides
What is a plateau?
A large, flat, raised area of land
What is a canyon
A deep valley with steep, rocky walls
What is a flood plain
A plain that was formed by flooding along a river
What is a feature?
A part, or a characteristic
What is a desert?
A dry area that gets very little rain
What is varied?
Different or changed
How are lakes different from oceans?
Most lakes have fresh water, while oceans have salty water
What are some landforms that are found in the U.S.?
Mountains, mesas, plateaus, canyons, flood plains, beaches, dunes, plains
What are some characteristics of the Northeast Region?
There are forests and hills. The soil is rocky, but further south and west, the soil is good for farming. The Appalachian Mountains runs through this region.
What are some characteristics of the Southeast Region
This region has low coastal plains along the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of Mexico Coast. The Appalachian Mountains also runs through this region.
What are some characteristics of the Midwest Region?
This region is known for broad grassy plains, forests and rolling hills. Major rivers also run through this region, such as the Mississippi, Missouri and Ohio Rivers.
