The Cherokee were offered and then forced to travel from their home to land west of the Mississippi River. Do you think that they were offered a fair and reasonable trade for their home and land? Why or why not?
No because that was their home that they have built for themselves and they lived there first. Many died when they were forced to move from their homes on their trip to the new land called Indian Territory. They called their journey the Trial of Tears since so many died.
The SW states all achieved statehood in different ways. Pick 1 of the SW region states and tell about its journey to statehood.
In 1889 the government opened parts of Indian Territory up to settlers and offered them land grants. The settlers know as Boomers settled this land that was once Indian Territory. The Indian Territory became filled with settlers from the East, and then in 1907 this land became the state known as Oklahoma.
