Point symbols
Single buildings,like shops or schools,have point symbols to represent them. They can have different shapes,sizes or colors to make them easier to understand

Line symbols
Roads,rivers and railways have line symbols to represent them. They can have a different color or thickness to make it easier to know which features on the ground they represent

Area symbols
Areas on the ground are spaces that have boundaries around them,such as a school ground,a park ,a province or a country.
How can different areas be identified on maps?
- a line that forms a boundary around the area.
