What is the background in which the study arises

Tyranny - an unequal social system involving arbitrary or oppressive use of power by one group or its agents over another

Inspired by the desire to try and understand tyranny
Zimbardo 1973 students assigned to roles of either prisoner or guard in mock prison in Stanford uni
The Stanford Prison Experiment (SPE) had to be stopped early because of the prisoners distress and guards brutality.

A

The person that takes on a role leads them to adopt a brutal behaviour which is a case of ‘the uniform made me do it’
In the SPE the tyranny was typical response when given the opportunity of having power over others.
