Conditions in mines
Women and children would work in mines with men also. They would sit in the dark for 12 hours often. People lost legs when carts ran them over
Why did people want reform?
They were shocked to hear about women and children working. Women were dragging coal on their hands and knees, people were appalled. They also saw the poor conditions kids worked in, with many hazards laying around. Children were being harmed by machinery and mistreated by the factory owners.
