Social Learning Theory - Albert Bandura Flashcards
Social learning theory
Learning through observation. E.g. Watching someone and imitating them
Main features
Observational is when behaviour is models by a role model
observer identifies with them
behaviour is observed and noted
behaviour is imitated hence learned
person becomes motivated and continues if behaviour is rewarded/reinforced
Role models
Role model to identify with so behaviour can be copied. Typically same sex, admired/respected, have a status power
Vicarious reinforcement (indirect)
When someone you are observing receives something pleasant after desired behaviour. E.g. If sibling is praised for eating all their food the younger sibling may copy. This means we don’t need direct reinforcement to reproduce behaviour
Achieved if
attention
retention
reproduction
motivation
