Classical Conditioning - Ian Pavlov Flashcards

1
Q

Pavlos dogs

A

Conducted experiment to see whether a bell could induce salivation by associating it with food.

1) UCS, food = UCR, salivation
2) NS, bell = NO CR, no salivation
3) NS, bell + UCS, food = UCR, saliva
4) CS, bell = CR, salivation

A

Refers to the process of learning through association. (Stimulus = response).

Q

Extinction

A
  • When the cs no longer leads to a cr
  • Occurs when the ucs is no longer presented with the cs so cr goes.
  • This doesn’t mean behaviour is in learnt, just dormant

Q

Main features

A
  • Unconditioned stimulus (UCS) = unconditioned response (UCR)
  • Neutral stimulus (NS) = no response
  • NS + UCS = UCR
  • Conditioned stimulus (CS) = conditioned response (CR)
