Social Learning Theory Flashcards
What is social learning theory
A way of explaining behaviour that includes both direct and indirect reinforcement, combining learning theory with the role of the cognitive factors- learning using imitation of a role model
Who was the main person involved with SLT
Bandura
What is vicarious reinforcement
Occurs when learners observe role models receiving either positive or negative reinforcement- causes them to imitate or not
What is identification
Involves internalising and adopting behaviours shown by a role model because they have a quality the individual would like to possess
What is the order of the meditational processes
Attention - retention - reproduction- motivation
What were the three stages of banduras Bobo doll study
Modelling- aggression arousal- test for limitation
What we’re bandura’s two studies
A- children either watched an aggressive adult, a non aggressive adult or no adult play in a room with many toys. They were then told to play with the toys
B- videos of aggressive adult behaviour are shown to children and watched the adult get either praised, punished or no consequence. They were then given a Bobo doll to play with
What is reciprocal determinism
The idea that as well as being influenced by our environment we also exert some influence upon it through the behaviours that we choose to perform
