Q

definition of modelling

A

from the observers perspective modelling is imitating the behaviour of a role model. from the role model’s perspective modelling is the precise demonstration of a spesific behaviour that may be imitated by an observer

Q

definition of vicarious reinforcement

A

reinforcement which is not directly experienced but occurs through observing someone else being reinforced for a behaviour. this is a key factor in imitation

Q

assumptions

A

learning is done via observation and imitation of others. slt suggested that learning occurs directly, through classical and operant conditioning but also indirectly

Q

the role of the mediational processes

A

1.attention- extent to which we notice certain behaviours
2.retention- how well behaviour is remembered
3. motor reproduction- the ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
4.motivation- the will to perform the behaviour, which is determined by wether the behaviour was rewarded or punished
1 and 2 relate to leaaning 3 and 4 relate to performance

Q

identification

A

people, especially children, are more likely to imitate to people they identify with (identification). the person they identify with is a role model. a person becomes a role model if they are seen to possess similar characteristics to the observer and or are attractive and have high status

Q

strength - cognitive factors

A

recognises cognitive factors of learning. humans and animals store information about the behaviour of others and use this to make judgements about when it is appropriate to make judgements when its appropriate to to perform certain actions. banduras theory rpoves this. suggesting that SLT provides a more comprehensive explanation of human learning
