Social Learning Theory Flashcards
What are the assumptions of SLT?
Behaviour is learnt through observation and imitation of others w/in a social context.
Happens directly and indirectly
Define Vicarious Reinforcement
When the learner observes a behaviour and its consequences - if its rewarded or punished
List the 4 mediational processes identified by Bandura
1) Attention
2) Retention
3) Motor Reproduction
4) Motivation
(ARMM)
What is the modelling process?
When people are more likely to imitate the behaviour of people with whom they identify i.e. their role models
Who established the SLT?
Albert Bandura
SLT is thought to be over-reliant on evidence from lab studies.
Why is this a limitation?
Lab settings can cause ppts to respond to demand characteristics
Why is SLT considered to be a more comprehensive explanation of human learning?
Neither classical or operant conditioning can offer adequate accounts of learning as humans and animals store the info on behaviour and use it to make judgements
Why is SLT limited by undermining the influences of biological factors?
In Bobo doll experiments it was consistently found that boys were more aggressive - this could be b/c of testosterone.
Imp influence on behaviour is not considered.
