Social Learning (Approaches) Flashcards
Who was the first social learning theorist?
Bandura.
What was the social learning theories assumption?
We can learn behaviour just by observing the behaviour of others.
What approach does social learning link too?
Behaviourist.
- Most behaviours are learned.
Define observational learning:
Learning by observing + copying someone else’s behaviour.
Define imitation:
Copying someone else’s behaviour.
Define modelling:
Performs behaviour which is imitated.
What similarities does social learning theory and the cognitive approach have?
- Both refer to cognitive processes such as attention and memory.
- Both used controlled experiments in artificial settings to test their theories.
What are the two factors affecting whether behaviour will be imitated?
1) Identification.
2) Vicarious reinforcement.
What does it mean when factors affect observational learning?
Just because someone observes someone else does something doesn’t fit they will imitate the behaviour.
Define identification:
People are more likely to imitate a model if they feel similar to them.
Define vicarious reinforcement:
When someone imitates the model because they observe the models behaviour being rewarded.
Devine vicarious punishment:
Someone is less likely to imitate a model because they observe the models behaviour being punished.
What are the steps in the meditational process?
1) Attention.
2) Retention
3) Reproduction.
4) Motivation.
What’s an assumption of the meditational process?
It’s involved in observational learning.
Which study support social leaning theory?
Banduras Bobo doll study.
