Negative eugenics
Discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits e.g. Nazi sterilisation of physically or mentally disabled
Eugenics
The study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population.
Positive eugenics
Encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits e.g. Nazi encouragement of ‘Aryan’ breeding, such as the Mothers’ Cross
Racism
The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
Genetics
The study of heredity and the variation of inherited characteristics.
Physiology
The way in which a living organism or bodily part functions.
Pseudoscience
A collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on scientific method.
Biological Race
A population within a species that is distinct in some way, especially a subspecies: people have killed so many tigers that two races are probably extinct.
Race
Each of the major divisions of humankind, having distinct physical characteristics:people of all races, colours, and creeds (beliefs) OR A group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc.
Genes
A unit of heredity which is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring.
Arbitrary
Based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system
Homogeneous
Composed of parts or elements that are all of the same kind.
Porous
Not completely sealed, with holes
Ephemeral
Lasting for a very short time.
Classification
The arrangement of animals and plants in taxonomic groups according to their observed similarities (including at least kingdom and phylum in animals, division in plants, and class, order, family, genus, and species).
