Social Cognition
It is how we process, retain and apply information about others and social situations. It influences the way we perceive ourselves and the way we relate to others. It is how we make sense of the world.
Person Perception
The process of forming judgments about others’ characteristics and behaviours.
#It is not always accurate#
There are three parts to it;
1. Physical Clues
2. Saliency Detection
3. Social Categorisation
Person Perception Factor: Physical Cues
Facial expressions, physical appearance and overall manner.
It is a survival mechanism that helps us recognize friend or foe.
Person Perception Factor: Saliency
The tendency to notice unique physical features.
It tends to focus on the most obvious points rather than noting background information. Survival instinct.
Person Perception Factor: Social Categorisation
The process of grouping individuals based on perceived social category. It helps children understand their social environment but can also have serious ramifications.
e.g Sex, Race, Age, Sexual Orientation

The process of attaching meaning to a behaviour by looking for a cause.
