1) internalisation

what does identification mean
A
- TEMPORARILY adoprt a different identity where we act the same a a group because we want to share the same values and wish to be ACCEPTED
- eg, someone may decide to become vegan because their friends are vegan but went away from this group they eat meat

what does internalisation mean
A
- a person genuinely accepts group norms as they have changed their opinions and behaviour
- CHANGED BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE OPINIONS
- eg, if a person shares a flat with a vegan they may become vegan

what does compliance mean
A
- confirming publicly but PRIVATELY DISAGREEING, so ‘going along with the others’
- SHALLOWEST FORM OF CONFORMITY
- eg, someone may laugh at a joke but privately not finding it funny

A
-we change our behaviour/ appearance or what we say based on REAL/IMAGINED peer pressure from others
