What is obedience?
Obedience is when an individual follows the orders of an authority figure.
What are the three types of conformity?
Compliance
Internalisation
Identification
What is conformity?
Conformity is when an individual changes their behaviour to fit in with a group.
What is Normative Social Influence?
It is an explanation of conformity where a person will change their behaviour to fit in with the group because they don’t want to appear left out.
What is Informational Social Influence?
It is an explanation of conformity where the individual does not know how to behave and will copy the majority of the group.
What is Compliance?
It is a type of conformity where we change our behaviour to go along with the group but our beliefs don’t change.
What is Internalisation?
It is a type of conformity where your behaviour and beliefs change because you do not know how to behave and you believe that the majority is correct.
What is Identification?
This is a type of conformity where your behaviour changes to fit in with the group but your beliefs also change whilst in that group.
What is Deindividuation?
Loss of personal self-awareness and responsibility as a result of being in a group.
What is Bystander Effect/Apathy?
When we fail to help someone in need, often because we believe someone else will help. The group creates a diffusion of responsibility that stops people helping in an emergency.
