Compliance
Individuals influenced by the views/actions of the majority so they can change their own behaviour in order to fit in. Private views remain the same as before.
Internalisation
Individuals change their behaviour and views in order to be accepted in a group of people. View/behaviour is changed publicly and privately.
Identification
Individual is influenced by a person/group to help them fit in. Individual also accepts new behaviour as right (internalisation), but this process happens because they want be accepted (compliance).
Normative Social Influence
When an individual changes their behaviour to be liked in public, but not in private.
Informational Social Influence
Individual accepts information from others as correct in order to fit in (internalisation), e.g. Titanic-Jack in different surroundings
Social Roles
Behaviours expected by an individual who occupies a given social position or status
Obedience to authority
Acting in response to a direct order from a figure with perceived authority
Agentic State
A person sees themselves as an agent for carrying out another persons wishes
Legitimate authority
A person who is perceived to be in a position of social control within a situation
Authoritarian Personality
A distinct personality pattern characterised by adhering to conventional values and a belief in absolute obedience or submission to authority
Dispositional
Behaviour is caused by an individuals own characteristics
F scale
A measure of authoritarian traits or tendencies
Right-wing authoritarianism
A cluster of personality variables that are associated with right-wing attitudes to life
Externality
Individuals believe that their behaviour and experiences are caused by events outside their control
Internality
Individuals believe that they them self are responsible for their behaviour and experience rather than external forces
