What is compliance?
When an individual accepts influence because he wants to gain a favourable reaction from a group or person
When does compliance stop?
Compliance stops when there are no group pressures to conform, meaning, this is only a temporary behaviour change
What is identification?
When a person accepts influence because he wants to establish or maintain a self defining relationship with another person or group
What is internilization
Internalization is when a person publicly changes their behaviour to fit in with the group while also agreeing with them privately, This is the deepest level of conformity, when the groups beliefs also tie in with the individuals beliefs
Normative Conformity
Normative conformity is when a person wants to be liked and yields to group pressure because they want to fit in, they publicly agree with them but in private, don’t.
Informational conformity
Informational conformity is when an individual wants to be right and usually occurs when they lack knowledge and look to the group for guidance
