proposed there are two reasons people conform= need to be liked + need to be right
what was the aim of Asch’s experiment
-to demonstrate the power of conformity in groups
-to see if ‘real’ participants stuck to what they believed to be right or if they caved in to the pressure of the majority
what were the findings of Asch’s experiment
why does identification have aspects of both compliance and internalisation?
individual accepts the attitudes and behaviours adopted as correct (internalisation) but purpose is to be accepted as a member of the group (compliance).
