Work and employment
Activity by which a persons earns a living.
Income and wealth
The flow of money to a person or household over time. The economic resources and possessions of a person or household.
Living wage
Based on what employees and families need to live not a legal requirement.
4.8 million 20% are paid at a level below the rate needed for the basic standard of living.
National living wage
Set up by GOV in 2016 for those over 25 considered the wage enough for living.
Minimum wage
The least you can be paid.
Absolute poverty
A lack of basic essentials eg. Food and housing.
Relative poverty
When someone is excluded from “normal” lifestyle.
Social mobility
Moving up and down the social scale.
Intergenerational mobility
Refers to the social mobility between generations measured by comparing the jobs between members of the same family eg. Parents jobs and their children’s jobs.
Intragenerational mobility
Refers to social mobility over the course of an individuals lifetime.
Life chances
The opportunity a person has to improve their quality of life.
