Social Implications Flashcards
Ergonomics
- science of designing equipment and items for the workplace environment according to the way that humans think, see, and behave.
- to incorporate user comfort, efficiency, productivity and safety
- can reduce human error, fatigue and stress over prolonged periods of use.
Green computing
- the use of computer resources in an eco-friendly and efficient manner to minimise the negative effects on the environment.
- Ways to limit the environmental impact:
Buy monitors that are energy-star rated.
Use electronic filing systems rather than printing hardcopies.
Print on both sides of the paper
old working computers can be donated
Send all electronic waste proper recycling.
Turn off devices when not in use.
Economic reasons for using computers
- SAVING PAPER
- LABOUR : Increases productivity by performing jobs more quickly and efficiently.
- COMMUNICATION COSTS
Efficiency
computers can process billions of operations in a single second which
then improves productivity and efficiency.
Accuracy
Computers process large amounts of data and can produce error free results provided that the user inserts the data correctly. Inaccurate input of data means
inaccurate results.
Reliability
Electronic devices are usually dependable and reliable since they rarely break or fail.
