What is evaluation apprehension?
The tendancy to tendency to try to look better or fear of being evaluated.
We quickly learn that approval and disapproval we receive is based on others evaluations of us
Therefore social pressures produce drive based on evaluation apprehension
What is the distraction conflict model?
People are a source of distraction which causes cognitive conflicts between doing the task or focusing on the audience
It impairs more difficult tasks but improves performance on easy tasks
Even an audience who are not watching e.g blindfolded can be distracting and can impair your performance
How do social pressures change performance?
Social pressures produce better performance as people want to make a good impression
People have a finite attention capacity which can be overloaded by the presence of an audience.people must divert attention to only some cues so social pressure impares performance
What is the commons dialemma?
Social dilemma where cooperation by all benefits all, but competition by all harms all. 100 grazing cows
What is entitativity?
Theproperty of a group that makes it seem like a coherent and distinct group
What is a social identity?
Who you are and what that entails, how you think you should act, derives from our membership in a social group
What is depersonalisation?
When we don’t view someone as an individual but as a group member only
