Nurturing & Motherhood
> Women are more likely to take on roles which involve child-bearing & child-rearing which make them less confrontational, more cooperative and more caring.
> Women use religion to help them in this role, to help take charge of children’s moral development.
Closer to Ultimate Questions
> Questions about life and death that only religion can answer.
> Women are more exposed to these through childbirth and participation in certain jobs such as nurses and social workers.
Life Expectancy
On average, women live longer than men. As they are likely to be widowed and living on their own, they turn to religion for comfort and support.
Organismic Deprivation
Women are more likely to suffer ill health and therefore seek healing through religion
Ethical Deprivation
Women are more likely to be morally conservative and see the world as being in moral decline.
They are attracted to sects who often share this view (world-rejecting).
Social Deprivation
Women are more likely to be poor.
This explains why women are more likely to join sects as they attract poorer groups.
Neo Conventional Family
Both partners share the roles and responsibilities.
For example, they both go out to work and share the cooking, cleaning and housework.
