A

1.Japan put up this policy that meant “closed country”.This policy restricted foreign trade, limited foreign contact, and the Japanese people weren’t allowed to leave Japan travelling abroad.
2.Foreigners were expelled or strictly controlled, with few exceptions from limited trade with the Dutch and the Chinese, who were allowed in designated areas such as in Nagasaki.
3.Japanese were faced with many problems when leaving the country and coming back.
4.Strict censorship was imposed on imported books, and only open for limited trade.

By maintaining a strict social class with the shogun at the top, followed by daimyo, samurai, peasants,and artisans, the shogunate ensured stability and control.
The hierarchy structure also served to reinforce social order and obideinence to authority, with severe punishments for those who challenged the hierarchy.
