Cultural Focus
Consumerism
Consumerism in simple terms is all about the possession of goods and tangible items rather than doing what is best for others and for yourself
Influential People
Pope Francis:
An influential person is defined as a person whose actions and opinions strongly influence the course of event. Pope Francis is the perfect example of an influential person he is a beacon of faith for the Church and inspires everyone that is within the Church
Political Ideologies
Theocracy vs Democracy:
for instance, in a theocracy or in a communist society people that inspire, motivate or direct how people should act and even think in relation to a religion: The leadership of such as people, individually or collectively, could be conscious or unconscious. An example of the political ideology is North Korea, where their leader is an atheist, which means therefore that the country as a whole are atheists
Historical events and issues
WWII,
. People were turned away from openly expressing their Christianity in fear of ridicule or even death. It was broadcasted on the Vatican radio that the religious life of Polish Catholics continued to be brutally restricted and explained that 400 Catholics had been deported to Germany in the last 4 months. They were silenced of any religious expression by the fear of persecution.
immigration:
immigration plays a major role in the widespread of religions around the world. Immigration on a whole is the way that a person or a group will come to and migrate to live permanently live in a foreign country. Since 1947, immigration patterns have greatly increased the religious diversity of Australia. A great example of immigration was the great migration of the Italians in the 1950s to Australia
Social attitudes and philosophes:
Secularism is a social attitude and philosophy that has influenced how people interact with religion in Australian society.
Social attitudes refer to the individual attitudes directed toward social objects. There may be social attitudes and philosophies that promote, marginalise, or reject religion and/or religious matters, an example of this is secularism.
Secularism is the view that religion should be private, personal, voluntary affair – religious considerations should be excluded from public life and government. Due to secularism, people are affected because some people might find it hard to keep religion private and to themselves. Additionally, living in an environment that keeps religion private, will impact their beliefs, attitudes, practices, and outlook on life. Living in a society that keeps religion private may lead people away from religion as they are not free to express their beliefs.
Social disadvantages:
Poverty, war, and hardship are all social disadvantages that influence how people interact with religion in the Australian society. Social disadvantages come about due to complex characteristics in the community such as low income, unemployment, lack of guidance from a parent figure or the lack of opportunities. These disadvantages effect people, especially the youth and this is how religion can influence and help people get back on their feet. Religion can give people meaning and something to follow in times of poverty. A form of poverty includes youth homelessness which is prevalent in Australian society. Ways that Australian Catholics have involved themselves in helping people who are victims of social disadvantages include the St Vincent De Paul society and the Salvation Army that not only look out for youth homelessness but all homeless and disadvantaged Australians.
