Social Cognition & Person Perception Flashcards
Social cognition
involves how we interpret, analyse,
remember and use information to make judgements about
others in different social situations.
Person perception
the mental processes we use to inform
impressions and draw conclusions about the personal
characteristic of other people.
First impressions can impact
decision making – person perception acts as a source of
information when making choices, such as whether to see
someone again
Interpersonal interaction - First impressions last, as
we tend to trust these ‘gut’ feelings and can treat people
accordingly.
Halo effect
a cognitive bias is which the impression we form about
one quality (physical appearance) of a person influences our beliefs and
expectations about the person in other qualities.
