HIV - Point
One social cause of underdevelopment is HIV
HIV - Explain
Preventable disease that’s increasingly harmful to whole populations
Most of those affected are of working age meaning country are deprived of key workers who could help the development of a country
HIV - Example
Around 40 million people worldwide have died of HIV
HIV - Analysis
Because resources have been diverted to treat those that are ill, the development of a country has been deeply affected

Malaria is another preventable disease holding back the development of a country
Rebuttal - Explain
Those most affected are young children
Countries are losing the next generation of key workers
Rebuttal - Example
Under 5 year olds represent 80% of African malaria deaths
Rebuttal - Analysis
The death of so many children is affecting the future success of a country
HIV Conclusion
Overall, both HIV & malaria are leading causes of global underdevelopment. These diseases are wiping out whole populations meaning the countries development is disrupted as money is being used to treat those who are ill
Lack of Education - Point
Another social cause of underdevelopment is a lack of education
Lack of Education - Explain
Higher levels of education is linked to higher levels of income which benefits governments in terms of higher tax receipts
The more tax collected leads to more money being invested into the development of a country
Lack of Education - Example
Only 29% of young people in SUBSA complete secondary school
Lack of Education - Analysis
The lack of education in a country can be a leading reason for why countries don’t have enough money to develop
Rebuttal - Point
Countries with less gender equality don’t develop at the same rate as countries who have more rights for women
