This is when an individual gives in to group pressure because they want to fit in with the group. The individual is conforming because the person is scared of being rejected by the group. In public, they accept the groups views but not in private.

Also when a person is in an ambiguous situation and socially compares their behaviour with the group. Usually involves internalisation.
