- Works: books, lectures, musical works, maps, illustrations
- Rights: distribute copies or phonorecords of work to public by sale or transfer must be performed in person or through audio transmission
- Validity: registration is not mandatory but recommended; valid through lifetime of author and 60 years after his death
Patent
- obtaining protection for new inventions that are new, original and useful
- Rights: exclusive rights over patent invention, right to exclude other from exploitation or earning from it
- Validity: patent protection is a territorial right in India but other countries can file separate protection where it is required; valid for 20 years after publication
Trademark
- protection of brand images, logos, slogan that distinguishes your goods and services from those of your competitors
- shapes, colors, slogan, brand name, animation
- Rights: exclusive rights to use mark and prevent anyone from using it without compensation; gives owners right to license or sell them in return of compensation
- Validity: valid for 10 years and renewed every 10 years
