What is ‘social action’?
“Doing something/a behaviour to help create positive change and improve human welfare”
At individual level or contribute to group, advocate for change on larger scale to address range global inequalities.
Name 4 ways to engage in social action
D - Donate
P - Purchasing power
R - Raise awareness
V - Volunteer
Describe ‘donate’ as a way of engaging in social action including an example
Giving resources, usually money to fund development programs and/or provide emergency assistance
NOTE: must say what is being donated and what it is likely to be used for
Describe ‘purchasing power’ as a way of engaging in social action including an example
Consumers buy products that support actions to promote social change:
- purchasing products where % of cost is donated to a cause
- purchasing products which are ethically sourced
Find out more about social issues and implement an awareness campaign e.g. social media, online petitions, etc. to ensure more people are aware of issues that need support.
Describe ‘volunteering’ as a way of engaging in social action including an example
Giving time to assist in raising funds or helping a program (free of payment) which is designed to help improve the lives of others.
