autonomous state
Where we behave independently - take responsibility of actions + likely to disobey
Agentic state
Where you follow orders from any authority figure, even if morally wrong (think blame will go to them)
Agentic shift
Switch between autonomous and Agentic state - legitimate authority figure
Moral strain
mental discomfort or anxiety experienced in Agentic state - going against what you personally think is moral
Diffuse responsibility
Thinking the blame will be shifted onto the authority figure
Social force - strength
How much power you believe the person influencing you has
Social force - immediacy
Physical proximity - close + time

Division of impact
Social force spread out between all the people it’s directed at

Intergroup competition (realistic conflict theory)
If two or more groups are striving for the same goal, prejudice and hostility will intensify
Negative interdependence
Two groups are seeking to achieve a goal that’s important for the both of them - obstruct the other groups achievements (one groups win is contingent upon the other groups loss)
Limited resources
Struggles between the groups may be for scarce materials, physical resources or a goal
Superordinate goals
Conflict reduced through groups working cooperatively towards a common goal
Social categorisation (social identity theory)
Separation of individuals into an in group or out group
