Soc24 and Soc 25-Energy Use,diet, Nutrition And Hydration Flashcards
What are macronutrients?
Macronutrients are types of food that you need in large amounts in your diet:carbohyrdates, fats and protein
What are complex carbohyrdates?
Complex carbohyrdates are found in natural food, like bananas, brown rice. Foods of this type help to provide energy for exercise and should form about half of your daily intake
What are simple carbohydrates?
Simple carbohydrates are found in their natural form in fruit and vegetables, and in their refined form in biscuits, cakes, chocolate and confectionery
What are fats?
Fats are important because they provide energy and, together with glycogen, help muscles to work
What are proteins?
Proteins are important to help build muscles and to repair damaged tissue
What is carb-loading?
Carbohyrdate loading is a strategy these athletes use to maximise the stores of glycogen(or energy)in their muscles and liver
What are micro-nutrients?
Micro-nutrients are the parts of your food that you need for normal growth, but only in small amounts-what we usually call vitamins and minerals
What are vitamins?
Vitamins are essential foe the body to function properly. Vitamins come in two groups;water soluble vitamins and fat solublw vitamins
What are minerals?
Minerals are essential for a healthy body, two key minerals you need as a sportsperson are calcium and iron
What is water?
Water holds oxygen and is the main component of many cells. It transports nutrients, waste and hormones around the body and controls the distribution of electrolytes
What is fibre?
Fibre(roughage)adds bulk to food and aids the functioning of the digestive system
What is hydration?
Being hydrated means the body has the correct amount of water in cells, tissues and organs to function correctly
What is dehydration?
Dehydration is the loss of water and salts essential for normal body function
What is diuretics?
Makes you produce more urine
What is metabolic rate?
The rate at which metabolic processes take place;the rate at which a body uses up energy
What are open skills?
Where the situation is always changing
What are closed skills?
Take place in a stable, predictable enviornement, and the player knows exactly what to do and when
What is a simple skill?
Player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
What is a complex skill?
Where the players complete attention and concentration is needed
What is a low organisation skill?
A skill that has clear, simple phases or parts
What is a high organisation skill?
A skill that has a lot of complicated phases or parts
What is massed practice?
Where the skill is practised until it is learnt
What is distributed practice?
Where the skill is practised over several sessions
What is fixed practice?
Where the skill is practised over and over again until it is perfected. Linked with closed skills.
What is variable practice?
Involves practising the skill in a variety of different situations so it can become adapted. Linked with open skills.
What are smart goals?
Goals that help you focus on what is important, motivates you, monitors your progress etc.
What is visual guidance?
Visual guidance is when a demonstration is presented to you
What is Verbal guidance?
Verbal guidance is when the guidance is spoken to you
What is manual guidance?
Manual guidance is when a coach helps you perform the skill by physically holding you
What is mechanical guidance?
Mechanical guidance is when a machine shows you how to do it
What is intrinsic feedback?
Intrinstic feedback comes from the performer themselves
What is extrinsic feedback?
Extrinsic feedback comes from an outside source
What is concurrent feedback?
Concurrent feedback is given at the time of the performance
What is terminal feedback?
Terminal feedback is given at the end of a game or performance
