What are complex carbohydrates
Are found in natural foods, shuch as bananas, brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, nuts and potatoes. Food of this type help to provide energy for exercise and should form
What are simple carbs
Found in their natural form in fruit and vegetables, and in their refined.
What are fats
Fats are important because they provide energy and, together with glycogen, help muscles to work. Fats are found in butter, margarine and cooking oils. (Bacon, cheese)
What is a good fat
Nuts, oily fish
Proteins
Proteins are important to help build muscles and to repair damaged tissue. Proteins are particularly important to strength athletes, such as rugby players and shot and hammer throwers.

Sumo wrestlers need more fat
Sprinters need more protein
Marathon runners need mor carbohydrates to allow them to run further and faster.
Preparing for a marathon
Eating more protein will help your muscles to repair after high-intensity training sessions. Later in the week, eating high levels of carbohydrates will help you store to turn into glycogen.

Diet is an essential part of providing our bodies with the energy we need to work and exercise, and the nutrients required to repair body tissues
