Snowball & Snowball Edge Flashcards
What is Snowball?
A physical device used for transporting many terabytes or petabytes of data into and out of AWS
How is snowball used?
Plug it into your network. Install an agent, and transfer the data onto of off of the device.
True or False: Snowball data transfer occurs only on your internal network?
True. This allows for much faster data copying speeds. Bypassing much slower and expensive internet transfer speeds.
How is the data on snowball transferred to or from AWS?
Snowball is delivered via ground transportation. Once received, copy the data to or from it, then ship it back to AWS.
What is the default bit encryption for Snowball?
256 bit
True or false: Snowball is region specific?
True. It is not used for transferring data between regions.
What is the use case for Snowball?
When you have large amounts of data or other restrictions that make internet transfers unfeasible.
What is snowball edge?
A 100TB device similar to Snowball, but with compute power.
True or false: Snowball Edge has an S3 endpoint?
True
True or False: Snowball Edge can run Lambda functions as data is copied to the device?
True
Can multiple Snowball Edge devices be clustered to act as a single storage and compute pool?
Yes.
Does Snowball Edge support NFS?
Yes
When should you use Snowball Edge instead of Snowball?
When you need to process data locally prior to sending the data to AWS.
