A
  • set a date and stop completely
  • tell everyone that you are giving up smoking
  • be prepared for withdrawal symptoms
  • get rid of ashtrays etc
  • aticipate a cough
  • be positive
  • write a list of reasons why you want to stop

How and when do you prescribe buproprion?

A
  1. When patient still smoking - advise to stop within 7-14 days
  2. 150mg OD for 6 days then BD for 7-9weeks - use lower dose in those with mild-mod liver impairment/elderly /low GFR <50

  • Recurrent seizures
  • History of seizure
  • CNS tumour
  • Severe hepatic cirrhosis
  • BIpolar disorder
