What are the symptoms of withdrawal from smoking?
A
- irritability/aggression
- depression
- restlessness
- poor concentration
- increased appetite
- light-headedness
- disturbed sleep
- nicotine cravings

What are the conservative measures that should be taken when stopping smoking?
A
- set a date and stop completely
- tell everyone that you are giving up smoking
- be prepared for withdrawal symptoms
- get rid of ashtrays etc
- aticipate a cough
- be positive
- write a list of reasons why you want to stop

How and when do you prescribe buproprion?
A
- When patient still smoking - advise to stop within 7-14 days
- 150mg OD for 6 days then BD for 7-9weeks - use lower dose in those with mild-mod liver impairment/elderly /low GFR <50

What are the contraindications to buproprion?
A
- Recurrent seizures
- History of seizure
- CNS tumour
- Severe hepatic cirrhosis
- BIpolar disorder
- Anorexia nervosa
- Bulimia
