Smaw Flashcards
Current that flows in one direction during any half cycle then reverse and flows in the opposite direction during the half cylce. What term is this ?
Alternating current
The strength of current of electricity measured in amperes
Amperage
It’s is ac transformer type with two coils primary and secondary
Buzz Box
A material or substance that is capable of transmitting electricity
Conductor
It allows current to flow in one direction only , in welding machine it turns AC to DC
Diode
Electric current that flows in one direction only has either a positive or negative value
Direct current
Straight polarity occurs when the electrode is connected to the negative terminal of the welding machine
. The electrode melts somewhat faster , resulting in faster welding speeds
. Penetration is shallow
. Metal flow us some what wider
Straight polarity
This is distance form end of the core wire of the electrode to the surface of the molten weld pool
Arc length
. The electrode burns hotter , causing faster welding speeds
. Penetration is shallower
. Operator control is more difficult when positioning welding
Straight polarity
. The electrode burn a little cooler than straight polarity
. Penetration is deeper , with short arc length
Reverse polarity
The number 1 designates that the electrode can be used in what ?
All positions
The number 2 designates that the electrode can be used in what ?
Flat and horizontal
The number 3 designates that the electrode can be used in what
Flat position only
The number 4 designates that the electrode can be used in what
Flat and down position only
Small pit holes and is in indication of gases trapped in the weld , poor starting technique or a welding speed that is too fats can cause
Porosity
Is made between a butt joint where the plate edges are angled
Groove weld
This weld type is usually made in a lap or tee joint in the 90 dergress inside the corner
Fillet weld
Lapping two plates where one of plates has a hole or slut cut drilled
Plug weld
