Q

How to think of and design a path to a successful goal completion?

A

Break down any big goal into 25-minute chunks that are manageable. Teach yourself to break down any goals like that and only act upon those small chunks to prevent getting overwhelmed with goals too large.

Objectives and key results are what really matter. Objectives are manageable bits of a goal. Key results are tangible progress towards that goal.

MAKE SURE, to segment your goals into chunks that are bite-sized or manageable → you can still give them a smaller timeline/deadline in order to be able to complete the higher-level goal in the same time frame, but you need to make the completion of a large task a gradual process instead of a “nothing has gotten done until the task is finally complete” task.

This helps you build momentum giving you a stronger desire to complete the tasks and more confidence that you can do it, if you see yourself failing often in the absences of recent successes, you will start to lose confidence → this can happen even on a daily basis. Think of the times you’ve though “today is just a bad day” or “I just can’t get anything done today”, etc.

Attainable yet Ambitious enough to excite you→ You can physically achieve it/mark it off within the time allotted for it and believe that you can (which is necessary to be fully motivated to do it properly/well/without leaving things on the table)

Q

SMARTASS

A

Ambitious enough to EXCITE you → The Goal is Ambitious enough to excite you and just barely in reach so that you will HAVE to grind as soon as possible in order to get it done, etc. and the reward for doing the goal is amazing enough that doing the work for the goal actually excites you

The WHY of the goal. The deeper or bigger reason for why you are doing this that will drive you.

With SMART, we make sure it’s realistic. A makes sure, it’s aggressive enough.

Systemic Reminders/ (Easily) Start-able → You have systems in place that will remind you to work on the goal, it is made so that it is easy to begi You can use things like chrome apps to bring you right to it regularly, shortcuts on your stream deck that you can press a button to get to, etc. **ALSO: You want to make it as easy as possible to start doing the work for this goal → meaning that you want to remove ALLLLL INERTIA FROM DOING THE RIGHT THING**n working on it, especially if it is something that is habitual. and add as much inertia as possible from doing the wrong one

Scheduled In → Give it a time and place to live in the world, without giving a goal the proper time and place to work on it, it is almost impossible to actually get it done. - **ALSO: you definitely want to add external pressure from this schedule where/whenever possible!!!!** - Put it into your calendar or into a to-do list and you can use the deadline to pressure you but as often as you can try to give it a time to actually begin working on it during (“run a 5k by december” → turns into “run with lena and mariyam from 7-7:30am everyday to train for a 5k by december”) to do the task if it is important, habitual, or set into the future. - This also helps by taking the decision making out of the equation on a regular basis, etc.
