Small Intestines (5 question on final) Flashcards
Mucosa surface epithelium cells are
simple columnar
Main functions of the surface absorptive cells (aka enterocytes)
of the mucosa surface epithelium
- absorb water and nutrients
2. Terminal digestion in glycocalyx: cells produce the enzyme and absorb the monosaccharides and peptides created.
How many DNES cell types in the small intestine?
We focus on what 3 types?
11
Type I
Type K
Type S
regarding mucosa - surface epithelium:
what do type I DNES cells produce?
produce cholecytokinin (CCK), which stimulates gallbladder contraction and pancreatic secretion of enzymes from serous acini.
regarding mucosa - surface epithelium:
what do type S DNES cells produce?
produce secretin, which:
- stimulates pancreas secretion of bicarbonate from the PANCREATIC DUCTS
- Inhibits HCL release and the movement of chyme into small intestines
regarding mucosa - surface epithelium:
Where are paneth cells found, how long to they live, and what do they do?
Paneth cells are long lived (~20 days)
Location: ONLY @ bases of the crypts (intestinal glands)
Function: produce lysozyme
In the submucosa- what do Duodenal (brunner) glands produce?
Primarily Alkaline mucus
Is the small intestine lined with serosa or adventitia or both?
Serosa: allof jejunum and ileum; first and last 1-2cm of duodenum.
Adventitia: vertical (descending) portion of duodenum
What kind of sphincter is the ileocecal valve?
A physiological and anatomical sphincter
Where are peyer’s patches found?
Ileum!
