What are the jejunum and ileum?
The jejunum and ileum together form the largest part of the small intestines.
What is the function of the jejunum?
To absorb food with villi; simple sugars, water, and soluble vitamins.
What is the function illeum?
The last site of absorption of, amino acids, fat soluble vitamins, fatty acids, cholestral, sodium, potassium, alchohol, and B12 vitamin.
What is the small intestine?
Extends from the stomach, the main site in the body where food is digested and absorbed.
What is the Pancreas?
Behind the stomach; secretes digestive enzymes/juices into the stomach and insulin into the blood.
What is the function of bile?
Bile contains bile acid which is essential for digestion.
What is the function of insulin?
Insulin regulates how the body used and stores glucose and fat.
What are digestive juices?
Digestive juices of the duodenum contain alkali sodium bicarbonate which neutralizes stomach acids and provides and alkaline environment that allows digestive enzymes to work.
Which enzymes are produced by the duodenum and pancreas during digestion?
Duodenum; maltase, sucrase, enterokinase, and erepsin.
Pancreas; lipase, amylase, and trypsinogen.
