Why do you want to work in SM?
I wanted to start my career in a reputable company like SM because I know that I will grow here professionally as an accountant and also you place high value not only to your customers but also to your employees and you encourage them to learn, grow, and motivate inside the company.
What do you look for in a working environment?
My ideal work environment is one that is centered around working as a team and that allows everyone’s talents to flourish. I find that I work best in an environment that is empowering and positive, no matter what the work is that I’m doing.
What can you contribute to SM?
I can contribute the knowledge and skills that I have learned from my university especially in the field of accounting. My mother is managing a small carinderia. At the end of each day, I’m the one who will count the sales and then I will compute the net profit she earned during that particular day. Inside our carinderia, we have also a small sari sari store. If I have spare time, I’m also helping my mother in inventory count. Sometimes also I’m giving suggestions to her on how to improve their sales in order to earn a higher net profit. In this way, I will be able to practice the knowledge and skills that I have learned which I can be also used to do the job that will be given to me.
I’m also willing to contribute my time. If there is an urgency to work on weekends or holidays, I’m also willing to do so.
What I’m doing is I count first that total sales she earned during that day and then I will less from there the cost of the ingredients used in order to compute the gross profit. And then from the gross profit I will less the operating expenses like the wages and utilities in order to come up with the net profit.
What kind of work will you expect based on the job description?
Its a great learning opportunities yet a challenging role but its good because I would like a job which gives me a chance to apply all that I have learned in college and enable me to grow as a professional.
Why? its a challenging work because you must have a lot of patience to finish your job on time and you must be organize and detail oriented to provide quality of work.
What are the jobs and skills of an accountant? ( Why are you fit for this job?)
An accountant should be
1. Organize- Being well-organized is a great way to demonstrate to your co workers and manager that you are reliable, competent and able to get the job done.
I’m a very organized person. I like to know exactly what I’m going to do for the day. So I outline my tasks and organize my work load. By doing so, I can organize my time and work better.
- Honest- Honesty and integrity are highly valued in the accounting world. I believe attitude is greater than aptitude. My parents always told me that you can fool other people but you can’t fool youself.
- Detail-oriented- An accountant must be careful with his work because typos and misplaced decimal points are easy to overlook, but they can cause big trouble for the company.
JOBS:
1. Accountants collect, organize and track financial information for organizations. They prepare financial reports regarding revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities for internal use by management and to meet requirements by the government.
- Accountants conduct audits to determine if client organizations or their own employer is following established legal practices and company policies for financial transactions and record keeping.
- Accountants prepare tax returns to minimize tax liabilities and ensure that income is reported according to the Internal Revenue Code.
Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs? In 10 yrs?
In 5 yrs, I see myself as a valued employee of your company. I want to be an expert at my position and start training to be an accounting manager. I know there are lot of things to learn, but I’m going to be working hard for the next 5 yrs. I believe opportunities come to great workers and I’ll do my best to be one of them.
In 10 years, I’d like to find myself in a position mentoring others in the field of accounting, putting my experience to use in ways that help others achieve what I’ve attained.
How can you deal with work under pressure?
I try not to look it in a negative way. But rather I see it as a motivation to work harder and it forces me to really focus on the work that I’m doing.
Academics, personal detail, family background
ACADEMICS:
I graduated….
Its not that I’m intelligent but its because of my hard work. To be honest I’m not a fast learner just like my other classmates but I’m studying harder, I spend a lot of time and effort just to fully understand a particular topic.
Why did you chose accounting?
I chose accounting because I really love numbers and computing mathematics problems. Its a very challenging course but when you graduate nmn po there will be a lot of opportunities that will open and also its a flexible job because you can work either in public, in private, in government and you can teach as well.
FAMILY BACKGROUND:
Before, my mother is a plain housewife but this year she opened a small carinderia near our house and she is the one who is managing it since my father loses his job when I was in college. My father is a former seaman but now my father is still trying his best to apply again as a seaman. I have 2 older brothers, one is an IT and the other one is already a father and I have one younger brother who is still studying in college. While me, I graduated….
OJT
My ojt experience in robinsons bank was good but not that as meaningful for me because I’m expecting that the task that will be given to me is related to accounting. But I’m still thankful because I learned new things even if its not about accounting and that what matters. I learned about the KYC testing. KYC is the process of a business like banks verifying the identity of its clients. KYC is a fundamental practice to protect the company from fraud and losses resulting from illegal funds and transactions.The task that was given to me is just simply collecting the basic data and information about their customers. We create database for the minimum requirements to verify if the client has complied. And we also conducted a review of database of the previous years to check if there are any deficiencies or if there are any requirements that was not complied by the client. And the rest more on compilation of requirements to check if the requirements are still complete and data encoding.
Feasibility study- is an assessment of the practicality of a proposed project. As the name implies, these studies ask if the proposed project is feasible.
Are you willing to render years of work in this company?
Ofcourse. As long as I’m still qualified for the position and a valuable asset of your company, I’m willing to stay here for a longer time.
What are your short term goal?
As a college graduate, I need to start building a strong presence in the industry.So, my short term goal is to gain more knowledge and learn a new set of skills in the field of accounting.
What are your long term goals?
My long term goal is to be a certified public accountant and earn a higher position in your company.
Are you willing to work in a very toxic company?
Yes because I’ve always wanted to challenge myself in everything I do. And I believe with this, I will grow professionally and I will learn new things to become a better accountant.
What do you expect from the company?
I’m expecting a good working environment where each employee is given the chance to flourish within the company and also good relationships among employees in order to achieve the goals of the company. I’m also expecting that I will learn a lot and develop new skills especially in the career path that I have chosen.
