WHY do i want to be a salt
- bc dan was v left out -stutter- and one of the key values of royal college of slt is INCLUSIVE COMMUNICATION which reduces inequality and social isolation
- i like the idea of always being able to learn and the expectation that you’ll stay up to date w your field + new research etc
what is inclusive communication
Inclusive communication is an approach to communication which enables as many people as possible to be included in that interaction- applies to all modes of communication
it:
Recognises that all human beings use many ways of understanding and expressing themselves.
Encourages, supports and enables people to use whatever ways of understanding and expressing themselves which they find easiest.
how have i researched slt
- work experience at ARCOS - cancelled bc of covid
- videos on RCSLT website
- wider reading- james law
- ZENKO- autistic child who learnt to speak at 14 months but as he got older he used less and less words until he was completely non verbal -saw a slt and gradually started communicating again- eye contact and other kids at nursery
why do i think slt is important
- gives everyone a voice
- empowers
- equality
what is I CAN
charity working to ensure no child is left out/behind by speech difficulties - no discrimination etc
- all based off research
- ensure everyone’s voice is heard - i am v passionate about equality and equal rights- BLM protest, worcs youth forum- and a big part of that is making sure everyone is listened to and heard

what is HCPC
health and care professions council
why not go into medicine or dentistry
- really love english -> find child lang acquisition etc really exciting
- i like being able to specialise straight away and not have to do a degree and then do another one to specialise
what would you like to specialise in
i like the idea of working with people with fluency disorders and stutters
of phonological disorders- find phonology v interesting
