SLT key definitions Flashcards
Imitation
how an individual observes a behaviour from a role model and copies it, because behaviour is not often copied exactly, imitation is a better word to use than copying
Identification
when an individual is influenced by another because they are in some ways similar or wish to be like them
modelling
when someone is influential in some way, they are referred to as a model (according to SLT). If an individual then imitates the person’s behaviour later it is called modelling.
vicarious reinforcement
used to describe the reinforcement the observer sees the model receiving, they do not receive the reward themselves; they see someone else get it (secondary)
attention
a person pays attention to someone’s behaviour
retention
Memorising behaviour that has been observed
Reproduction
Practising the behaviour themselves
motivation
Given a reason, they may use the behaviour
