SLT Flashcards
1
Q
Key assumptions of SLT
A
- Behaviour is learned through (other’s) experience
- People learn through observation and imitation of others
2
Q
Vicarious Reinforcement
A
Behaviour observed to have positive consequences is more likely to be imitated
3
Q
SLT
1st mediational process
A
Attention (behavioural) ➞ the extent to which notice certain behaviours
4
Q
SLT
2nd mediational process
A
Retention (behavioural) ➞ how well a behaviour is remembered
5
Q
SLT
3rd mediational process
A
Motor reproduction ➞ the ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
6
Q
SLT
4th mediational process
A
Motivation ➞ the will to perform the behaviour (often determined by whether the behaviour was rewarded or punished)
7
Q
SLT
Explain identification
A
- People (esp. children) are more likely to imitate people that they identify with
- The person they identify with is called role model and the process of imitating that person is called modelling
- A person becomes a role model if they are seen to possess similar characteristics to the observer and/or attractive and have high status
- Role models may not be physically present in the environment and this has important implications for the influence of media on the behaviour
