ethernet
a set of standards (protocols) for how data is transmitted over
a wired network
defines how devices on a network can easily communicate with other devices
disadvantages of ethernet
location is limited by the need for a physical cable connection
a setup relying on ethernet relies on lots of cables, connections and hardware which will affect cost
bluetooth
ideal for connecting personal devices
has short ranges however
range of up to 10 metres
has low bandwidth
has low power consumption
wifi
a common standard for wireless networks
range up to 100 metres
high bandwidth
high power consumption
advantages of wifi
users can move around freely
easier to set up
less expensive
convenient
can handle a large number of users
disadvantages of wifi
speeds are slower than wired connections
relies on signal strength to the wireless access point (WAP)
signal can be obstructed
less secure
