Slopes of Lines Flashcards
What is Slope?
The slope of a line is its steepness.
What is Principle 1 of Slopes?
As a point moves from left to right along a line that is rising, y increases and x and the slope of the line is positive.
What is Principle 2 of Slopes?
As a point moves from left to right along a line that is falling, y decreases as x increases and the slope of the line is negative.
When does a line have Zero Slope?
When the line is parallel to the x-axis because it is horizontal.
When does a line have No Slope (Undefined)?
When the line is parallel to the y-axis.
What is Principle 3 of Slopes?
If a line is parallel to the x-axis, its slope is 0.
What is Principle 4 of Slopes?
If a line is parallel to the y-axis, it has no defined slope.
