Sliding mechanisms Flashcards
What are the 4 different types of sliding mechanisms?
[Picture5]
> Carriage slide
> Linear slide
> Drawer slide using ball bearings
> Complete carriage slide with lead screw
What are the shapes of slides?
> Longer than they are wide
> A ratio of at least 1.6:1 to prevent snagging (Length:Width)
What is snagging?
this occurs when the force is off centre from the slide and can cause the slide to rotate and snag
What is the equation for the Y axis for this situation? [Picture 6]
∑Fy = 0 = FB1 + (-FB2) ⇒ FB1 = FB2 = FB
What is the equation for the X axis for this situation? [Picture 6]
∑Fx = (-μFB2 ) + (-μFB1 ) + (-μW) + Fpull = 0
Fpull = μW + 2μFB
What is the equation for the moments about the centre of mass for this situation? [Picture 6]
∑M@CofG = 0 = Fpull×c + μFB1×a - FB1×b - μFB2×a - FB2×b
Fpull = (2FB×b) / c
What is the specification for ACME trapezoidal thread?
[Picture7]
What is the specification for Trapezoidal metric thread?
[Picture8]
What is the ISO standard nomenclature for the trapezoidal metric thread?
> T,12 x 3
> T = Trapezoidal thread
> 12 = Diameter of 12mm
> 3 = Travel a distance of 3mm for one rotation of the lead screw
> A matching nut must match the thread pitch and diameter
