sliding filament theory Flashcards
An electrical impulse travels down a nerve fiber
1st Step
Nerve impulse reaches the end of the nerve & causes it to release acetylcholine
2nd Step
ACH binds to receptors on the muscle cell membrane & causes the electrical impulse to be transmitted to the muscle cell
3rd Step
electrical impulse inside the muscle cell causes the release of calcium ions from sarcoplasmic reticulum
4th Step
Calcium ions bind to troponin causing it to rotate
5th Step
Rotation of troponin move tropomyosin off the myosin binding site on actin
6th Step
Myosin head binds the myosin binding domain of actin
7th Step
Myosin bends in 2 places, releasing ADP & pulling on the thin filament
8th Step
The Z-lines are pulled closer together & the A-band shrinks
9th Step
