Sleep
One of the body’s biological cycles essential for function.
Circadian Rhythm
Cycle of physiological and biological processes of being asleep and being awake.
Wake Sleep Cycle
Biological rhythm of sleep.
Beta Waves
Awake and alert, between 15 and 30 Hz.
Alpha Waves
Light sleep, between 7 and 12 Hz.
Theta Waves
Early sleep, between 4 and 7 Hz
Delta Waves
Deepest sleep, up to 4 Hz
Non-REM Stage 1
Transition period between consciousness and sleep.
Non-REM Stage 2
Temperature will drop, heart rate will slow, breathing more shallow.
REM Paralysis
Presence of REM during the transition in or out of sleep.
Sleep Deprivation
Getting less sleep than your body needs. Acute sleep loss to chronic deprivation.
Microsleep
Fleeting, uncontrollable brief episodes of sleep.

Out of sync sleep/wake cycle.

To stop breathing during sleep.

Falling immediately into REM sleep during the day without warning.

Lengthening/increasing frequency of REM sleep after periods of sleep deprivation.

Extreme fear and screams during deep sleep without waking fully.
